Somoma weekend
Crystal and my birthday bracketed a weekend this year. Saturday and Sunday saw
us and Karen in Sonoma. Crystal's mom joined us for lunch and wine tasting on
Saturday. That evening, we did a food run and sat around and chatted. On Sunday,
we Spa-ed. Then hit a labyrinth and another winery.
Birthday dinner
Monday evening, it was a gathering at the Burlingame Benihana
Japanese steakhouse for dinner.
High Tea
A week later, I hosted a Tea Party for my birthday at work. I can't do sugar,
so the typical get-a-cake idea doesn't work so well for me. There was an abortive
attempt for the Tea Party last year so I made sure it happened right this time.
I made 4 different kinds of sandwiches (egg salad, curry chicken salad, brie
and green apple and cucumber all with the crusts cut off of course), 3 different
types of scones (pumpkin cranberry, lemon current, plain English) with mock-Devonshire
cream, tomatoes, a large variety of teas with work providing the tartlets and
petite-fours. They were beautiful. I had a marvelous time and it made up for
the mistake of last year.
